Green PET Tape for Powder-Coating and Process Masking

Green PET tape uses a polyester film backing and silicone pressure-sensitive adhesive for temporary masking in powder coating and other heat-exposure processes. The bright green film is easy to see against many parts, helping operators confirm placement and find the tape during removal.

Use Polyester When Edge Definition Matters

Polyester film provides a smooth, dimensionally stable masking edge that can help define the boundary between coated and protected surfaces. Its thinner profile is useful on flat or gently curved parts, while the visible color makes missed pieces easier to identify. Tape width should cover the protected area with enough margin for consistent placement and edge sealing.

Tape Logic® green PET products are designed for general-purpose powder-coating masking and list heat performance for the specific construction. Treat that rating as one part of the decision: actual suitability also depends on dwell time, oven profile, part temperature, surface finish, coating chemistry and removal timing. For tighter contours or electrical-insulation work, polyimide tape may offer a more suitable construction.

Prevent Lift, Bleed and Residue

Apply to clean, dry parts before preheating. Press the complete masking edge firmly, especially around bends, seams and changes in surface texture. Avoid stretching the film during placement because recovery can pull it away from corners as the part heats.

Run a representative part through the complete wash, pretreatment, coating, cure and removal sequence. Inspect for coating bleed, edge lift, film shrinkage, adhesive transfer and damage to the finish. Define when the tape should be removed and provide a clear disposal step so no masking remains on a completed part.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why is high-temperature PET tape green?

The color improves visibility during application and removal; it does not by itself define temperature or adhesive performance.

Can it mask parts during powder coating?

Yes, when the exact tape suits the substrate, pretreatment, coating, oven temperature, dwell and removal process.

Does green PET tape work on sharp bends?

Polyester film works best where it can lie flat; tight bends may require narrower tape, relief cuts or a more conformable masking material.

What causes coating to bleed under the edge?

Contamination, wrinkles, insufficient pressure, surface texture, edge lift or an unsuitable tape-process combination can allow intrusion.

Setting Up a Powder-Coating Mask?

We can help match PET tape width and construction to the part geometry and complete oven cycle.
