Measure the product’s maximum protected length and width first. Then compare the finished pack height with the available score positions on the exact carton. A usable score must leave room for top protection and allow all flaps to fold and meet without pressing into the product.

For a broad review of dimensions, strengths and box styles, use the corrugated shipping box selection. Multi-depth construction is most useful when several repeat pack heights share a stable footprint; it is less helpful when length and width also change substantially.

Train packers to identify the intended score, make straight cuts only where the carton is designed to be reduced and fold the panels cleanly. Uneven cuts can create poor flap alignment, exposed edges and inconsistent taping. Marking approved depths or pairing each product with a pack instruction improves repeatability.

Include cutting time, scrap handling and error risk when comparing consolidation savings. Select standard or heavy-duty material from packed weight and distribution demands, not merely from the number of scores. Test each approved finished height because shortening a carton changes its geometry but does not create a new performance rating.
