Cushion Pads

Position pads where they can support the product without pressing on fragile projections, controls or cosmetic surfaces. Use enough material to limit movement in every direction and keep the item separated from carton walls. An irregular product may need different pad placement at the base, sides and top rather than equal quantities around every face.

For applications that benefit from paper wrapping or crumpled void fill, compare kraft paper. Cushion pads are a preformed format; they should not be cut open or treated as a source of loose fill unless the product instructions specifically permit it.

Close the carton without crushing the pad so severely that it loses useful cushioning space or transfers pressure to the product. Test representative packs for shock, vibration and settling through the expected distribution cycle. Inspect the film before use and do not use a torn pad where escaping fill could contaminate the product or work area.

Polyethylene film and EPS content should not be presented as curbside recyclable, compostable or suitable for food, medical or static-sensitive products without product-specific documentation. Establish disposal and spill procedures for the facility. A ready-made cushion can simplify packing, but it does not replace application testing or an approved pack specification.
