Electrical Tape

Identify conductor and insulation materials, system voltage, operating temperature, environment and the role of the tape. Primary insulation, splice overwrap, jacketing, bundling and phase identification can require different properties. Use manufacturer data and applicable installation rules for the exact product. Retain the approved tape specification with the work instructions so replacements remain controlled.

Color can support identification only within a defined electrical practice. It does not establish voltage, flame, weathering or listing performance. Likewise, mil thickness is one physical property and cannot substitute for documentation of the required rating.

De-energize and verify the circuit as required before work. Prepare conductors and connections according to the approved method, apply tape with the specified overlap and tension and avoid gaps or folds. Electrical tape does not replace connectors, enclosures, strain relief or other components required by the installation.

The industrial electrical tape group contains 3/4-inch, 20-yard, 7 mil rolls in multiple colors and pack quantities. Those common dimensions do not prove identical approvals. Confirm listing, voltage, temperature, flame and environmental data for the exact SKU, and follow codes plus equipment and tape-manufacturer instructions.
