Poly Tubing for Custom-Length Bags

Poly tubing is continuous open-ended film that can be cut and sealed to the length a product requires. It is especially useful for rods, components, assemblies and product families that share a similar cross-section but vary in length, reducing the need to stock a separate preformed bag for every size.

Size the Width Before the Length

Tubing width is measured flat, so the product's full cross-section determines fit. Allow enough clearance for the item to slide inside without stretching the film or catching edges. For round or irregular products, a circumference-based estimate is only a starting point; test loading with the actual product.

After selecting width, cut the length with allowance for the product, both end seals and any desired headspace. Select film gauge from weight, sharpness and handling. Longer packages may place more stress on the film and seals even when the cross-section is unchanged.

Plan the Cutting and Sealing Process

To make a bag, cut the tube, create the first seal, load the product and seal the remaining end. Keep seal areas clean and flat. Confirm that the film is compatible with the sealer and validate the settings needed for a continuous, strong seal without excessive melting.

A poly tubing dispenser helps control the roll, while a compatible heat sealer creates the bag ends. Custom length saves bag inventory, but every package adds cutting and sealing labor, so workstation layout matters at higher volumes.
