Carton sealing adds flap stress, packed weight and corrugated adhesion. These uses require different balances of backing strength, adhesive, temperature resistance and removability.
Product families such as 3M™ 2460, 2515, 2517, 2525 and 256 illustrate why the grade number matters: flatback appearance alone does not identify adhesive performance or intended use. Review the exact technical data for shear, tensile strength, thickness, service temperature and substrate compatibility.
Use the Paper Backing Intentionally
The smooth backing accepts many pens and markers, which can help with short production notes or identification. Confirm ink adhesion and drying when legibility matters. Paper tape can often be torn by hand, but a dispenser improves consistent lengths and keeps the edge ready for fast use.
Apply to a clean, dry surface with firm pressure. Test first on coatings, printed cartons, plastics and finished parts because aggressive adhesive can lift weak surfaces or leave residue. Flatback tape is not automatically recyclable with a carton; adhesive, coatings, contamination and local recovery rules all affect acceptance.
