Begin with carton weight, board composition and the strongest stress on the seal. Lightweight cartons with limited handling may not need the same tensile and shear performance as overfilled cases, dense goods or long distribution cycles. Highly recycled corrugated can present a different fiber surface, making a purpose-designed adhesive more valuable than simply moving to a thicker tape.

Choose hot-melt grades when fast tack and high-throughput sealing drive the decision. Choose acrylic grades when aging, clarity, low odor or exposure to ultraviolet light matters. Clear and tan tapes support ordinary closure, while colors can identify routes, product families or inspection status. Color is an operational cue, not proof of tape grade or performance.
