Size the cavity to control movement without overstressing the item, and treat the shipper as one element of an ESD control program—not as automatic electrostatic shielding. Measure the device and account for connectors, leads, boards and protrusions that should not bear concentrated foam pressure. The cavity should stabilize the product while preserving the foam’s working thickness.
