Blockout Labels for Covering Old Carton Markings

Blockout labels are designed for one simple job: cover existing labels, printing, text or designs on cartons so outdated information is less likely to compete with the new shipment. Packaging HERO carries paper blockout labels in kraft and white to blend with common corrugated carton colors.

Blockout Label Sizes

Choose a label that fully covers the old information with enough margin around the printed area.

Size Kraft White Typical Roll Quantity
2 x 3 in. Available Available 500
3 x 5 in. Available Available 500
4 x 6 in. Available Available 500
8 x 10 in. Available Available 250

Kraft vs. White

Kraft blockout labels blend more naturally with brown corrugated cartons. White blockout labels are better suited to white corrugated or applications where a white cover area is acceptable. The goal is not decorative matching; it is to make old shipping information less prominent and give the carton a cleaner surface for the new label.

Blockout labels are especially useful when cartons are reused or when a previous carrier label, barcode, product description or routing mark should no longer be scanned or interpreted as current.

How to Choose a Blockout Size

1. Measure the entire old mark. Cover the barcode, text and surrounding printed area rather than choosing a label that only hides the center.

2. Leave a margin around machine-readable codes. A partially visible barcode can still create scan confusion even if most of the old label is covered.

3. Match the label color to the carton when practical. Kraft and white options help the coverup area look cleaner on the two most common corrugated colors.

4. Use the 8 x 10 format for large old labels or panels. The larger format is supplied in a lower roll quantity and is intended for much bigger areas than routine parcel labels.
