Match diameter to the area that must stay exposed or protected, then account for normal placement variation. A disc that barely covers the target can expose an edge when applied off-center; one that is too large can block coating or contact where it is needed. Confirm film and total thickness when the masked boundary must remain low-profile.

The polyimide film supports high-temperature processing, while the adhesive holds the disc during handling and exposure. Temperature rating, dwell time, electrical properties, chemical resistance and clean-removal behavior remain product- and process-specific. Test the disc on the actual substrate and finish, particularly when parts are plated, polished, painted or otherwise sensitive to adhesive contact.

Apply discs to clean, dry surfaces before parts collect dust, oil or release agents. Center the mask and press the full edge to reduce lifting and process-material bleed. For high-volume work, a consistent picking tool and placement reference can improve speed while reducing fingerprints and folded edges.

Determine whether discs should be removed hot, warm or after cooling through a controlled trial. Remove them at a stable angle and inspect both the part and disc for residue or coating intrusion. When the masked area is not circular or sizes vary widely, Kapton® tape rolls provide more flexible coverage.
