How to Measure Poly Bags and Sheeting

Being able to measure your poly bags for the correct fit whether fitting the right product or purchasing and existing item.

How to Measure a Flat Poly Bag
Measure the Length (L) from bottom of the bag to the opening.  Measure the Width (W) of the bag from side to side.
How to Measure for Fit
For rigid items, add 1/2" to the Width (W) of the bag to allow the item to fit through the opening.  For thick or bulky items, adjust dimensions, add 1/2" to 2" to both dimensions for a looser fit.  Example: for a flat product 2/5" wide and 5.5" deep, the bag dimensions should be at least 4" W x 6" L.

How to Measure a Zip Top Bag
Measure the Length (L) from bottom of the bag to the base of the reclosable seal.  Measure the Width (W) of the bag from side to side.
How to Measure for Fit
For rigid items, add 1/2" to the Width (W) of the bag.  For thick or bulky items adjust dimensions, add 1/2" to 2" to both dimensions for a looser fit.  For example: for a flat product that is 2.5" Wide by 5.5" Deep, bag dimensions should be at least 4"W x 6"L.

How to Measure a Slider Top Bag
Measure the Length (L) from the bottom of the bag to the bottom of the slider closure.  Measure the Width (W) of the bag from side to side.
How to Measure for Fit
For rigid items, add 1 1/2" to the Width (W) of the bag. For bulky items, adjust dimensions, add 1/2" to 2" to both dimensions for a looser fit.  Example: For a flat product 2.5" Wide by 5.5" Deep, bag dimensions should be at least 4"W x 6"L.

How to Measure a Bag for a Square Container
To find the dimension of a flat poly bag to fit your box or other square containers.  Measure the Width (W), Depth (D), and Height (H) of the container to be lined.  To determine the width of the bag to use, add the width and depth together.  For a looser fit add 2".  The length of the bag is determined by adding the depth to the height of the box plus 6" to allow coverage of the box contents.  Example: If the container size is 14" (W) x 10" (D) x 32" (H), the flat poly bag dimensions to line the box would be 26" W x 48" L.

How to Measure a Gusseted Bag
To find the dimension needed for a Gusseted Bag, first measure the Width (W), Depth (D) and Height (H) of the box or container to be lined.  Depth should be the shorter side.  To determine the width of the bag needed, add 1" to the depth of the box or container.  The Length of the bag is determined by adding the depth to the height of the box plus 6" to allow coverage of the box contents.
