GHS / OSHA Hazard Communication Pictogram Labels

Packaging HERO offers GHS / OSHA-style hazard pictogram labels for workplace chemical identification, including symbols such as Corrosion, Exclamation Mark, Flame, Health Hazard, Skull and Crossbones, Environment and Gas Cylinder. Select the symbol and label size from the classified hazard and the finished label design.

GHS Pictogram Options

The pictogram is selected from the chemical's hazard classification. A symbol should not be chosen by appearance alone.

Pictogram Common Hazard Communication Role Stock Format Examples
Corrosion Skin corrosion/burns, serious eye damage or corrosive-to-metals classifications 1 x 1 and 2 x 2 in.
Exclamation Mark Certain irritant, sensitizer, harmful acute-toxicity and related classifications 1 x 1 and 2 x 2 in.
Flame Flammable and other specified physical-hazard classifications 1 x 1 and 2 x 2 in.
Health Hazard Specified chronic or serious health-hazard classifications 1 x 1 and 2 x 2 in.
Skull and Crossbones Acute toxicity classifications identified as fatal or toxic 1 x 1 and 2 x 2 in.
Gas Cylinder Gases under pressure 2 x 2 in.
Environment Aquatic-toxicity pictogram used in GHS systems 2 x 2 in.

A Pictogram Sticker Is Only One Label Element

Under OSHA Hazard Communication requirements, shipped hazardous-chemical labels generally include more than the pictogram: product identifier, signal word, hazard statement, precautionary statements and supplier information are also part of the label system.

OSHA requires eight GHS-style pictograms for covered workplace hazards. The environmental pictogram is recognized in GHS but is not mandatory under OSHA HCS because environmental hazards are outside OSHA's jurisdiction.

These stock pictogram stickers are useful when your labeling process already defines the complete hazard-communication content and the pictogram required for the classified chemical.

Frequently Asked Questions

Are these DOT transportation hazard diamonds?

No. GHS/OSHA workplace pictograms and DOT transportation labels are different systems and should not be substituted for one another.

How should I choose a pictogram size?

Choose a size that fits the complete label design and remains clearly visible with the other required hazard-communication elements.

Is the environment pictogram required by OSHA?

No. OSHA identifies the environmental pictogram as non-mandatory because environmental hazards are outside OSHA's jurisdiction.

Can I build a complete OSHA shipped-container label using only a pictogram sticker?

No. The full label generally requires additional elements such as the product identifier, signal word, hazard statements, precautionary statements and supplier information.

Need a Specific GHS Pictogram?

If the chemical classification already identifies the required symbol, we can help you find the matching stock size.
