Start with the exact steel strap specification. Listed tools cover widths from 3/8 inch through 1 1/4 inches and multiple thickness ranges, including .015 to .020, .015 to .025 and .025 to .044 inch. Do not select from width alone or force strap outside the documented range.

For example, one sealless combination tool handles 1/2- to 3/4-inch steel from .015 to .025 inch thick. A separate deluxe tensioner covers 3/4- to 1 1/4-inch steel from .025 to .044 inch. Neither description makes the tool suitable for every steel coil in those widths.

A tensioner tightens the strap but does not complete a sealed joint. A sealer must match the seal, strap width and notch style. A sealless combination tool forms its own documented joint and should not be treated as a general substitute for a tensioner-and-sealer system.

Train operators on the exact tool, inspect joints and maintain wear parts according to the instructions. Steel strap has sharp edges and can recoil when cut or released. Use suitable protective equipment, control cut ends and keep bystanders clear. Never use steel strapping or its tools for lifting.
