Strap Guards for Edge Protection and Tension Distribution

Strap guards sit between tensioned strapping and a package edge to reduce concentrated pressure and help keep the strap positioned. Available formats include laminated fiberboard protectors in several dimensions and thicknesses plus molded plastic guards sized for maximum strap widths from 3/4 inch through 2 inches.

Choose Material and Geometry from the Load

Fiberboard protectors distribute tension across a wider contact area and are available in .120, .160 and .225-inch constructions. A representative .120-inch protector measures 3 by 2 by 2 inches and is packed 1,200 per case. Match leg dimensions to the package edge and available clearance.

Plastic guards use a formed channel to help locate the strap. One white guard measures 1 by 1 7/8 inches and accepts strap up to 3/4 inch wide. Other plastic products accommodate wider strap, so confirm the stated maximum rather than estimating from the outside dimensions.

Protection Does Not Replace Package Testing

A guard can reduce marking or crushing at the contact point, but it cannot correct excessive tension, weak cartons, unstable stacking or a poor strap pattern. Trial the guard on the actual edge material and inspect the package after tensioning, handling and storage.

Keep every guard centered beneath the strap and verify that it remains seated during application. Reuse only when the piece is clean, undamaged and still fits the application. Recyclability, reuse and disposal depend on the exact material and local program.
