Stretch Film, Pallet Covers and Load-Protection Supplies

Stretch wrap and cover products support different parts of a pallet-protection plan. Hand and machine films contain unit loads, sheeting and covers add a physical layer over selected surfaces, edge protectors reinforce vulnerable corners, and dispensers help operators apply compatible rolls. Start with the load and equipment rather than selecting by film thickness alone.

Match the Product Family to the Task

Use hand film where an operator wraps individual pallets or changing load profiles. Machine film must match the wrapper's carriage, prestretch capability, roll dimensions and operating settings. Extended-core, bundling and pre-stretched formats address narrower manual tasks, while anti-static or VCI products should be chosen only when the exact construction supports the required application.

Poly sheeting, top sheets and pallet covers can help separate a load from dust, handling contact or light moisture exposure, depending on the product and application. They do not create a waterproof shipping system. Edge protectors address corner pressure and strap or film contact but do not replace a stable pallet pattern.

Validate the Complete Wrapping Program

Containment depends on more than gauge. Load weight, height, sharp edges, product movement, overlap, film force, prestretch, revolutions and the number of top and bottom wraps all affect the result. Compare candidate films on a representative pallet using the same equipment, settings and operator method planned for production.

Record the approved film, wrapper settings and wrap pattern after testing. Review hand stretch film for manual work or machine stretch film for compatible automated equipment. Recheck the program when the load profile, pallet, temperature or distribution route changes.

Stretch Wrap & Covers FAQs

Is a higher gauge always the better stretch film?

No. Gauge is one specification; containment must be tested with the load, wrap pattern and equipment.

Can hand film be used on a stretch wrapper?

Use only film documented for the equipment and confirm roll and carriage compatibility.

Do pallet covers make a load waterproof?

No. Covers add a layer but seams, openings and application conditions still permit exposure.

When should a wrap program be retested?

Retest when the film, load profile, pallet, equipment settings or distribution conditions change.
