Cohesive Foam for Custom-Fit Protective Pouches

Cohesive foam bonds to itself when folded and pressed, allowing packers to create a fitted sleeve around varied parts without putting adhesive on the product. The soft polyethylene foam separates surfaces while the self-bonding layer helps keep the wrap closed.

Create a Pouch at the Packing Station

Place the product on the foam, fold the material over it and press the foam-to-foam margins together. Leave enough perimeter for the cohesive surfaces to meet without forcing the material tightly against the product. Cross-perforations make repeat sections easier to tear while still allowing adjacent sections to be combined for longer items.

Cohesive foam is useful when a station packs many shapes but still needs the speed of a pouch. It reduces tape use and avoids adhesive residue on the item. For one repeat size at high volume, a preformed foam pouch may be faster and easier to standardize.

Protect the Seal and the Product

Apply even hand pressure along the mating edges and keep the cohesive surface free of dust and debris. Test the fold pattern on products with sharp corners or projections; edge guards or added cushioning may be needed to prevent puncture. Avoid over-tight wrapping that compresses the foam and removes useful cushion space.

The self-bonded seam is intended to hold the protective wrap together, not to create a certified barrier, tamper-evident seal or shipping container. Place the wrapped item in an appropriate outer package and control any remaining movement. Verify material compatibility for sensitive coatings, plastics or specialty applications.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does cohesive foam stick to the product?

It is designed to bond to itself rather than the product, helping avoid adhesive residue.

How much edge margin should I leave?

Leave enough foam-to-foam contact for an even bond without squeezing the product.

Is the cohesive seam waterproof?

Do not assume it is. Use documented barrier packaging when moisture protection is required.

When is cohesive foam better than preformed pouches?

It is especially useful when product shapes and lengths vary enough that one pouch size is inefficient.
