Length × Width × Depth

Length: the longer side of the box opening
Width: the shorter side of the box opening
Depth: the distance from the opening to the opposite panel

The inside dimensions describe usable space. They do not include the board thickness or manufacturing variation that affects the finished outside size.

How to Choose the Right Shipping Box Size

1. Measure the Product or Order
Measure the longest points in the orientation you expect to pack. For multiple products, arrange the complete order as it will ship instead of adding individual dimensions without a pack plan.
2. Define the Protection System
Determine the cushioning, inserts, partitions, bags, or clearance the product requires. Fragility, weight, surface sensitivity, movement, and the shipping environment determine the needed space. 3. Determine the Minimum Inside Size
Combine the packed product dimensions with the validated protection and closure requirements. Leave enough working room for consistent packing without creating unnecessary empty space.
4. Select Strength and Style
Size alone does not determine performance. Match the corrugated construction and box style to product weight, stacking, handling, closure, and any customer or carrier requirements.
5. Pack and Measure a Finished Sample
Close the carton using the actual product and materials. Measure the longest outside points and look for bulging, weak panels, poor closure, product movement, and wasted space. 6. Validate the Complete Pack
