Shrink Film, Tubing and Bags for Heat-Applied Packaging

Shrink packaging uses film that contracts under controlled heat to conform around compatible products. Roll film supports repeated sealing and wrapping, tubing creates custom-length sleeves, and preformed bags reduce converting steps. Film family and format must be selected together with the product, sealer and heat equipment.

Choose the Shrink Format

Format Why choose it Critical check
Polyolefin Shrink Film General roll-film packaging across compatible retail and industrial products Food-contact status, gauge, shrink behavior and equipment
Reynolon® 5044 PVC Film Glossy centerfolded film for compatible non-food packaging Non-food restriction and PVC-specific heat settings
Heat Shrink Tubing Custom lengths for products with similar cross-sections Tubing width, two end seals and cutting labor
Shrink Bags Preformed packaging that reduces cutting and side-sealing steps Bag shape, opening, gauge and product clearance

Validate the Complete Heat Process

Select enough film to cover and seal the product without excessive loose material. Gauge influences toughness and heat response, while product shape affects where the film gathers and how evenly it shrinks. Packages with sharp edges may need corner protection or a different film construction.

Match the film to the seal bar, heat gun, tunnel or other equipment. Test labels, inks, finishes and heat-sensitive contents before production. A tight-looking package is not automatically tamper-evident, food-contact suitable or approved for direct product contact; each requirement depends on the exact film and finished-package design.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between shrink film and tubing?

Roll film is formed around the product; tubing already has closed sides and is cut to custom length.

Why choose a preformed shrink bag?

It reduces converting steps when a standard bag shape and size fits the product.

Can every shrink film contact food?

No. Confirm food-contact suitability for the exact film and intended conditions.

What causes uneven shrinking?

Poor film sizing, irregular product shape, trapped air or uneven heat can create wrinkles and loose areas.
